Sicilian Santo Stefano Hedgehog Statuette
The Italian word for hedgehog is “istrice.” The Sicilians call it a “Riccio” or “Rizzo.” They can be found in the Nebrodi Mountains near the town where this hedgehog was handcrafted, Santo Stefano di Camastra.
Its original use was as a hot water bottle to be placed at the foot of the bed. We think it makes a perfectly wonderful, especially happy, green statuette. This piece of authentic Italian pottery was handmade in Sicily. It is 12″ long and 5″ tall. Measurements are approximate.
