Sicilian Santo Stefano 9.5X 7.5″ Oval First Stone Wall Plaque: Lobster
With its big, healthy lobster, one could say Italy meets New England on this wonderfully charming wall plaque. It was hand-painted in Santo Stefano di Camastra, Sicily. Known as “first stones,” plaques or tiles like this are placed in a garden or house as a sign of good luck and prosperity.
It’s a Sicilian tradition dating back to the 16th century. Fratantoni, of Fratantoni Ceramiche, is a master of his craft. He hand-painted and signed this plaque.
