Deruta Raffaellesco 7″ Small Rooster Pitcher

Dating back to a legend about the Medici family in the 15^th century in which crowing roosters alerted Giuliano de Medici to hired assassins approaching, rooster pitchers such as these are considered to be providers of good luck and fortune. This ceramic rooster, or chicken, was individually handcrafted and painted by the artists in Deruta, Italy, where the Raffaellesco pattern first appeared in the late 16th century. This rooster pitcher is dishwasher safe and safe to use for beverages. It also makes a lovely vase!
