Deruta Galletto Red Teapot

The Galletto pattern is a modified version of a pattern that came out of the Umbrian town of Orvieto in the 13th century. In the 19th century, centuries after Deruta had become the center of Umbrian ceramics, a rooster was added to the pattern and the leaves were also modernized.  As well as being a lovely addition to the pattern, the rooster is said to bring good fortune to the home because of a legend about the Medici family in the 15th century in which crowing roosters alerted Giuliano de Medici about the approach of hired assassins. This ceramic teapot was handcrafted and painted by the artists Labor Deruta of Deruta, Italy.

The Galletto Red Teapot is 5.5″ in height and can hold 30 oz.
