Deruta Galletto Red Spoon Rest
Bring good fortune into your kitchen or dining room with this hand-painted spoon rest. The Galletto pattern is a modified version of a pattern from the Umbrian town of Orvieto in the 13th century. In the 19th century, centuries after Deruta became the center of Umbrian ceramics, a rooster was added to the pattern, and the leaves were modernized. As well as being a lovely addition to the pattern, the rooster is said to bring good fortune because of a legend about the Medici family from the 15th century in which crowing roosters alerted Giuliano de Medici about approaching hired assassins.
