Deruta Galletto Green Pair of Salt and Pepper Shakers
The Galletto pattern is a modified version of green and white ceramics that came out of the Umbrian town of Orvieto in the 13th century. The original Galletto pattern was green and white in color. In the 19th century, centuries after Deruta had become the center of Umbrian ceramics, a rooster was added to the pattern and the leaves were also modernized. As well as being a lovely addition to the pattern, the rooster is said to bring good fortune to the home because of a legend about the Medici family in the 15th century in which crowing roosters alerted Giuliano de Medici about the approach of hired assassins. This ceramic pair of salt and pepper shakers was handcrafted and painted by the artists Ceramiche Sberna in Deruta, Italy.
The Deruta Galletto Green Salt and Pepper Shakers are approximately 3″ in height.
