Deruta Galletto Blue Spoon Rest
The Galletto pattern is a modified version of a pattern that came from Orvieto in the 13th century. In the 19th century, centuries after Deruta became the center of Umbrian ceramics, a rooster was added to the pattern, and the leaves were also modernized. As well as being a lovely addition to the pattern, the rooster is said to bring good fortune because of a legend about the Medici family from the 15th century in which crowing roosters alerted Giuliano de Medici to approaching hired assassins. This ceramic spoon rest was handcrafted and painted by the artists of Ceramiche Sberna in Deruta, Italy.
This Galletto Blue Spoon Rest is 11″ in length and 5″ at its widest point. Measurements are approximate.
