Deruta Galletto Blue 12″ Round Serving/Wall Platter
At 12″ in diameter, this charger plate is a good size to use as a platter or dinner plate. It was handcrafted and painted by the artists of Ceramiche Sberna. The Galletto pattern is a modified version of ceramic originating in the Umbrian town of Orvieto in the 13th century.
In the 19th century, centuries after Deruta had become the center of Umbrian ceramics, a rooster was added to the pattern, and the leaves were also modernized. As well as being a lovely addition to the pattern, the rooster is said to bring good fortune to the home. This is because of a legend about the Medici family in the 15th century in which crowing roosters alerted Giuliano de Medici of approaching hired assassins.
This piece of Italian ceramic is food safe. It is dishwasher safe. It has also been drilled to hang as wall decor.
