Arabesco is a widely popular ceramic pattern from Deruta in the Italian region of Umbria. Because of a legend about the Medici family from the 15th century in which crowing roosters alerted Giuliano de Medici to hired assassins approaching, rooster pitchers like these are considered to be providers of good fortune.
